Here we go. Lets go back to highschool, specifically to me being 16 and asked to choose what I wanted to be for THE REST OF MY LIFE?
Man, I barely knew how to fry an egg, how could anyone expect me to choose a career? When I was in high school, I took the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme and studied biology, math, economics, Spanish, English literature, Italian, chemistry… I was generally good at them, I liked them all but passionated as to dedicate my life to any of them? Nah, I wasnt that lucky, I of course had to struggle with the “BUT DAD I HAVE NO IDEA OF WHAT I WANT TO DO WITH MY LIFE!!!!!” and the “MOM WHAT DO YOU SEE ME LIKE?” .
I started applying to all these fancy “business-related” careers in all “well-known” universities around the world. I looked for all available scholarships, did 192812 entrance exams, went through a couple of interviews… you know, I had to show off my perfect daughter material sweetie 😉
And for what? hahdggahah for literally nothing cause all that “I will study business at a good university with a job guarantee as soon as I graduate so my parents will be proud and I will be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious happy” was crap.
Luckily I had this “what the heck am I doing?” moment where I suddenly imagined myself at age 8 and dreaming of being an astronaut. What happened to the “mom, I want to be a teacher, an ice skater, an archaeologist, or an astronaut”? And that is what you have to ask yourself.
When I was an ignorant, annoying, dreamful and happy kid, what did I want to be?
I for sure wanted to be an astronaut, and though I might not end up travelling to space, I am now studying something far more related to it than business.
The Maastricht Science Programme (MSP).
Te lo dedico futbolista 😉
