Welcome Pack Maastricht

Heyyyyyy, I have been contacted by SOOOOOO MANYYYYY of students who will be moving to Maastricht next year. You guys have literally the same questions, fears and nerves, as I did. We have all been in that situation before – being new somewhere can be both SUPER EXCITING and SUPER STRESSING at the same time.

So, the thing is, I’ve been answering them one by one, but I noticed that some of you have the same questions and some didn’t really know what to ask specifically ahahhah the question “Why do you like Maastricht?” is way too broad. So I’ve made a list and decided to write a blog post about it. Let’s go.

P.S. I’m writing this as if I were talking to my past self – the one who was about to move to Maastricht – so excuse me if I made the post too personal hehe.

Marta, dude, stop stressing out.

1. Student Residence? Rooms? Apartments?

YES. Maastricht has housing issues. And YES, they should do something about it, But till that happens, use the following to try and find your future little home away from home.

2. Transport?

Bike: Swapfiets

Bus:

Train: NS app

Aiports: Maastricht, Eindhoven, Amsterdam, Brussels and Cologne.

3. Health insurance?

If you’re already covered by European Health insurance or any other insurance that applies in the Netherlands and you’re not employed alongside your studies, there’s no need for you to take out any local health insurance! I have a part time job and WAY TOO MANY ALLERGIES so I did get health insurance (AON).

4. What is a Citizen Number?

As soon as you get there you should apply for a BSN number. The BSN is a unique personal number you use to identify yourself to government agencies. It is mandatory. They will explain everything to you in terms of DIG-ID.

5. Bank?

I am still no expert. I have an ING account and I have no issues further than getting sometimes my mastercard rejected. Here, some shops only accept Maestro, so maybe read online or mention it to your parents and figure out if you need a new bank account or not.

6. Career?
You will study the Maastricht Science Programme, Marta, what do you really want to know about it? TAKE A LOOK AT THIS POST.

7. How is the social life there?

I think I might write another post specifially on this because I have SOOOOOOO MANYYYYY THINGS TO SAY ABOUT IT.

8. Where can I find further information?
